Christian Jessen Working Late From Home

This page is a private blog from the life of Christian Jessen – a Dane trying to make a life in Peru, starting a business in Lima. The blog is intended to be a easy way to communicate and tell people about my story and my life in Peru, and on the same time give some tips and tricks about moving to Peru, opening a business in Peru and travelling around South America in general.

Why start business in Lima, Peru?

Deciding to move to Lima and start business in Peru is normally a very big decision, but for me it has been more like an random act. I have been working on my company Easy-Web for some time in Denmark before, but I gave up the the beginning of the phase, as I found out I had to much competition in Denmark, my creativity died and I did not feel I had something special to offer to the Danish market. Since my high school graduation in the summer of 2007, I have been working with a lot of different things; I’ve been full-time as a programmer in my own company, travelling 6 weeks around Chile with my sister, working in different part- and full-time jobs and spend 4 months in the Danish Army. After doing my service in the Danish Army, I decided to live out my dream of going back to South America, and travel around for 6 months or more. So I bought a ticket leaving Denmark the 12th of January, going to Santiago de Chile, and going home from Puerto Rico in the Caribbean 6th of august. Not more than a few months into my travel though, I was already thinking of expanding my trip with 3-4 months, so I would have more time travelling before going home to Denmark.

Christian Jessen on Isla del Sol

In the end of March 2009 I arrived in Lima, expecting just to stay there for the weekend, before moving on north to Ecuador. I met a lot of nice people in just a few days though, and made so many new friends that I decided to stay for a week. In the end of the week I became more interested in either staying in Lima for some more time, or maybe return to get a job in Lima later – but I was pretty sure that this wouldn’t be the last time seeing Lima. By talking to friends and contacts in Lima, i figured out that there was more room (and almost no competition) for my main product in my Danish company here in Lima (or Peru in general). After a few days of research, talking with people and contacts in Lima and talking with friends and family back home in Denmark, I decided to take the jump – stay in Lima, starting business and living here for at least a year.

On this blog I will share my thoughts, experiences and give some tips about moving to Peru and starting a business in Peru. If you have any suggestions, ideas or just found this site useful, feel free to contact me or just write a comment on the blog. I really appreciate any response to my writings and my work on this website.
